Dallas Design District Restaurants

These Dallas Design District Restaurants include a modern gastropub (Wheelhouse), an Italian restaurant (Sassetta), and a coffee bar (GoGo) and have redefined an previously forgettable street with a large steel canopy and art piece resulting from a collaboration with Daniel Arsham. The central covered patio that connects all three restaurants serves as an outdoor dining area as well as a performance space for events year round.

Wheelhouse uses raw materials and smaller window breakups to create an moody, industrial, feeling gastropub. In contrast, Sassetta uses its large window openings and playful interior to create a bright, colorful, family Italian restaurant highlighted by its 9’ orange door. These two restaurants, along with the coffee bar, GoGo, complement each other bringing people to the project at all times of day and into the night.

The covered patio is the defining feature of this project and was created by removing the center of the existing building and floating a steel roof above. The art wall serves to protect the outdoor space from the busy street and acts as a beacon attracting attention and business for the restaurants. On the Wheelhouse side large glass guillotine windows are operated by hand wheel allowing the restaurant to spill outside and giving it its name.
