The 1912 Art Studio is built over the garage of a private residence. This design build project was taken from conception to realization; through design, development of drawings, acquisition of permits, and construction. The space is meant to be a place to escape, relax, and make art using various mediums.

To create the studio, the north side of the roof was reconstructed at a 12:5 slope. A row of clerestory windows along the ridge collect natural light and illuminate the interior, eliminating the need for artificial light during the day. Foam insulation and solar shield roof decking protect the space from the harsh Houston sun. A solar powered exhaust fan is located in the storage space and a mini split air conditioning system regulates the temperature of the studio. The hot water heater can be turned off with the flip of a switch when the shower is not in use, saving energy. Using these different systems, the 1912 Art Studio becomes extremely energy efficient.
